project Description
A permanent blue screen installation for a multi-season Regency-era drama. This setup was used for all “carriage” sequences, where the windows of the physical prop carriage needed to show a digitally rendered 19th-century London.

Challenges
The studio was a converted industrial space with highly reflective wooden rafters and a significant “flutter echo.” This made capturing clean “on-set” dialogue a nightmare for the sound department. Additionally, the production used vintage lenses that are particularly sensitive to “color spill,” which would have turned the actors’ period costumes slightly blue.
Solution
We specified Chroma Key Blue Digifoam. The 5mm foam backing served a dual purpose: it provided the “Digital Blue” saturation needed for the key, while simultaneously acting as a wide-area acoustic absorber to “kill” the room’s echo. The foam layer also added a soft-touch backing that absorbed the light from the studio’s high-angle rigs, preventing blue light from bouncing into the vintage glass of the camera lenses.
